Last night, I went to see the Sex and the City movie with a group of girl friends. Bean wanted to know where I was going and I told her I was going to see a movie.
"Mama, what movie are you going to go see?"
"Um, it's called New York City Girls!"
Fortunately, my brain was fully engaged in the conversation!

Grey's Anatomy Finale
I was going to post a cutesy title, but I figure if you read that title and haven't seen the episode yet, it's pretty obvious there will be spoilers ;>
So, very nice and pat. Of course, this is Shondaland, so nothing can work out quite so nicely.
Here are my predictions for next year:
Derek goes to tell Rose and is involved in a horrific accident on the way back to Meredith. Miraculously, he makes it out unscathed, but, when he returns to the land, he finds that Meredith has been abducted by aliens.
Hahn and Torres decide to leave the medical profession and open a lunch counter. Name? Sapphic Salads. Mark Sloan bankrolls them.
George decides that everything is going pretty well for him because he is celibate and tells Lexie he can't possibly have a relationship with her. Lexie sleeps with Alex, instead.
Izzie realizes that she really never will have George ever, so she sleeps with Alex instead.
Mark realized that he will never be asked to be in a threesome with Hahn and Torres, so he sleeps with Alex instead.
Everything turns out jelly-side up for Bailey.
Christina Yang falls in love with the gorgeous new head of OB/GYN, Dr. Adam Turner. She marries him. Yes, she will be Tina Turner.

Cleanorama
I've been on a cleaning rampage.
The house is sort of a mess. It's clean, but we've sort of lapsed into a general atmosphere of untidiness that is driving me bonkers.
So, I've been doing something about it.
The problem is that Dr. Pig is a saver and I'm not. And he tends to save things regardless of the quality of an item. The fact that it's dented, half-melted, or stained doesn't always register. However, at this point, we've been married long enough that he no longer feels like I'm tossing "his" things and even he can see that, if we haven't used it in the last 10 years, perhaps that dented pie plate is not really adding a lot to our household ;>
I'm sort of acting like I'm getting ready to move and making a first pass. Because if we do move, I don't want to have so much stuff to go through that I start tossing the good stuff because I don't want to look at any of it again!

No, really, I do still exist
I am, like most of you, incredibly busy. As I've mentioned before, I'm on the board of a couple of local charity organizations (nothing fancy, but lots of work) and the year-end wrap-ups and events and meetings have been going on at a frantic rate. I have not one, but THREE events tomorrow. All at the same time. I may end up going to one. I may decide to bail on the whole thing. I'm a bit worn out.
Plus, the end of the school year, the school play, and the 87 other school things and soccer things and Bean scheduling.
Combine that with an insane workload from Dr. Pig and you have very little knitting and really nothing to post about other than the usual blah blah. If you have children, you know the tune. If you don't have children, you probably don't care where that particular radio station can be found! I, of course, think that Bean is the most insanely cute, smart and fabulous child in the world, but even I can tell that I may be just a touch biased ;>
Oh, and, because I'm an idiot, I agreed to teach science lab at VBS. It's just sand and water experiments. I think they know better than to ask me to do anything actually related to theology! (And now, children, we will compare the teaching of Buddha to the Beatitudes.)

Poisonous Caterpillars*
Before I left for St. Louis, Bean brought home her science lab homework. It had a list of Living vs. Non-Living Things. All spelling, punctuation, etc. has been precisely reproduced for your enjoyment.
Living Stuff
Plant's
Bug's
posinis caterpilers
Trees
Non-Living Stuff
ded birds
Pudls (puddles)
Snake-Scin
bird poop
I love 6!
*If I ever have a band, I'm going to call it Poisonous Caterpillars. I'd make a mint. If I had any musical ability whatsoever!

Good gravy!
It's been almost a month since I last posted!
Time flies and all that.
I am still alive and kicking (loudly) as the other attendees of the Loopy Ewe Spring Fling can attest. I am wishing that this were last Wednesday, as I would still be looking forward to the event rather than wishing I were still there.
But, we're having a good time here. And there is knitting. But, right now, I have a meeting and then I have to pick up Bean.

allergies of DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
My sinuses are trying to secede from my head.
Here's how you tell if someone is really your friend: You pick up your child from school and your friend tells you that you should have let her pick up your child. The next day, your husband walks said child into school and your friend asks how you are doing. Upon hearing that you are still feeling pretty punk, your friend tells your husband that she will go to the grocery store, buy cupcakes for the class for your child's birthday snack, and bring them to school so that you don't have to get out of bed. I'm so grateful I could cry.

Davidson 57 - Kansas 59
I am now obligated to hate Kansas with a burning passion.
I want UNC to beat them even if Hansborough does have a smug expression on his oddly teeny head (compared to the rest of him).
Man, it was so close. And now the national media is questioning why Curry didn't take the shot instead of passing it to Richards. Guys, the one thing you should have learned about Curry after watching him is that if he doesn't feel comfortable taking a shot, he's probably right.
This was an amazing run and the Wildcats deserve every accolade possible. It's too bad Curry won't be up for MOP. I think if they had beaten Kansas, he would have been a serious contender even if Davidson didn't advance any further. I think a case can be made that he's been the most outstanding player anyway, but the award has always confused "outstanding player of the tournament" with "biggest player on the winning team".

OK, Carole, here you go!
1. Pick 10 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them on your blog for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. Looking them up is cheating, please don’t.
1. My mind is aglow with whirling, transient nodes of thought careening through a cosmic vapor of invention.
2. May I pass along my congratulations for your great interdimensional breakthrough. I am sure, in the miserable annals of the Earth, you will be duly enshrined.
3. Well, obviously it's not meant to be taken literally; it refers to any manufacturers of dairy products.
4. All is fair in love and war, and this is revolution!
5. The thing is, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.
6. The important thing is the rhythm. Always have rhythm in your shaking. Now a Manhattan you shake to fox-trot time, a Bronx to two-step time, a dry martini you always shake to waltz time.
7. Oh, it's not the speed really so much, I just wish I hadn't drunk all that cough syrup this morning.
8. Find one in every car. You'll see.
9. Certainly, in the topsy-turvy world of heavy rock, having a good solid piece of wood in your hand is often useful.
10. Oh God, all just empty words. It's not the way they said it was, is it? I just want someone to be with. The only thing I feel is afraid.
Some of these are pretty easy, but I had to include some of the funniest lines rather than something more obscure. Then again, some of the movies themselves are a bit obscure.
Good luck.

F is for Flood
Oddly enough, my F post for the 2006 version of the ABC-along had the same title.
Remember the flood zone picture I posted a few weeks ago? (Yeah, I know D is for Deluge and F is for flood are pretty much the same, but I have more F's in the post!)
The water was over the park when I came home (7 inches of rain in one day), but had receded a bit by the time I was able to get back out and take a picture. Yes, this is the picture where it's not threatening to go over the road. People who live at that end of the block have to have flood insurance. Up the block there is a huge hill - I live on top of that hill and my yard was a complete swamp with standing water!
F is also for Fort Worth
Ticky Tacky sign. The rest of the pics will wait for another letter.
F is for Feet and Fun
In the Loopy Groupies forum on Ravelry, we had a hilarious thread on hitting F5 for the recent Wollmeise sneakup. I totally missed the sneakup because I was on the phone with my mom and, when I refreshed and snuck a couple of skeins in my cart, they jumped right out again. However, I had post 1500, for which Sheri awarded a special prize. A much-coveted skein of Wollmeise in Wilder Mohn - one of the two colors I wanted! Sheri is fabulous!

The weatherman is getting a workout
Last Sunday, it was in the high 70s.
Monday, it rained all day and then we had a bit of snow that night.
Tuesday, it was in the 50s.
Wednesday, 70s.
Thursday, dropped to 30 and iced and snowed.
Today, yeah - 58.
Is it any wonder that everyone is sick all winter? I can take cold or hot, but both in one week - not once but twice? Yeah, let's move on to summer already.

E is for Experiment
A couple of years ago, my favorite LYS had a selection of yarns from Lonesome Stone. Gorgeous, gorgeous wools and mohairs and loopy yarns in really fabulous colors. Pricey, but then there was a sale. So, I bought some of this and some of that.
Here are two skeins of wool/mohair Frasier Flats and one skein of Baby Kid Mohair in the colorway Old Blue Eyes.
I bought them with a vest in mind. The body would be the wool/mohair blend and the edgings would all be two layers of mohair.
Obviously, it never happened.
Then, Wendy posted about the Agatha shawl. I really love the pattern and had one of those moments where you want to castonimmediatelynowwhichyarncanI use.
I have a few options, but it would mean breaking up a sweater quantity of wool. Then, I remembered the Lonesome Stone. I have 650yds of the wool/mohair worsted weight and 200 yds of the mohair. The plan is to use the worsted until I complete the body and then punt. I do not think I have enough worsted to complete the shawl. The pattern used a 218 yd skein of DK for the edging, so I figure my 200 yds of heavy laceweight mohair should do the trick. If not, I'll just leave out one repeat on the edging. I think a heavy shawl with a floaty border will be sort of pretty.
Any opinions? I'd love to hear if you think my experiment will work or if you think my hypothesis is all wet! I need reassurance!

D is for deluge
We live up the hill from a floodplain. The houses at the bottom of the hill are required to have flood insurance. I've only seen the water come up over the berm once, but Sunday was certainly thinking about it.
I'll post a pic of what it normally looks like tomorrow, once the water really recedes.

The best part of today
The best part of today is not the glorious sunny weather and wide blue sky (because it's still muddy from the downpour Sunday and Monday and I have to bucket the dog* any time she comes in the house).
The best part of today is not that the in-laws went home (because, of course, everyone is delighted to have houseguests for five days when they and their child have strep throat).
The best part of today is that it was Cleaning Day and the guy who cleans my house twice a month came and my house is lovely and empty and CLEAN and I didn't have to help!
*Bucketing the dog is the process that occurs when you have any type of hunting or herding dog with big ole paws that harbor extra mud. You have to fill an old mop bucket with warm water (because cold water doesn't work as well and who wants to put their paws in a big bucket of cold water?) and then bodily wrangle the dog paws into the bucket for a soak and then rub them while still in the water to get all the damn dirt off the paws and out from around the nails and all because as much of a pain as it is to bucket the dog, it's more of a pain to clean the carpet and mop the floor.

It all becomes clear
Bean has been almost as whiny as I have been.
Bean now has strep.
I also have strep.
Might explain the whiny, no?
Stash sale on Ravelry. If you aren't on Ravelry, I'm a horrible person but I just don't feel like updating here. I'll try to post the remains tomorrow once the antibiotics kick in.

gripe gripe gripe
Tired and cranky seems to be the order of the week. Dunno why as life is good, but even The Bean is a bit off. I think some of it has to do with our wildly fluctuating weather and the tremendous winds we've been having. I sleep long and hard, but seemingly not very well as it's all I can do to get myself out of bed in order to get Bean up for school.
Today I must go to the gym, the Post Office and I have to go to the mall to return something. At least they have coffee at the mall.
I'm not posting because it does me no good to put up a big whiny post, and who wants to read that crap? I mean really. We're all tired of winter. Even when my winter includes a gloriously mild and sunny day like today.
I'll post D another day. Maybe a side effect of the mild winter is that it'll be hot pretty soon. I like hot weather. I know, I'm sick, but I kind of miss the summers when we'd all wonder if we'd break the record for the number of days over 100F. I didn't even have central air conditioning for 7 years and I miss the heat!

Unable To Progress
Lizzy has been sitting on the coffee table with half a sleeve seamed and the needle still stuck in the fabric for a week now.
I did manage to rip and reknit a portion of one of the socks I am working on, but all that means is that I am back where I started.
The outlaws arrived this week for an extended stay. Thankfully, they will be in a hotel for a week before staying with us, but it's shaping up to be a looooooooong week.
As usual for the past month or so, I've managed to overschedule myself to the point of craziness. The only plus is that I had my hair cut on Wednesday and I look faaaaaaabulous and have a major party to attend on Saturday at which I can show off my faaaaaaaabulous!
Today, I have to buy underwear and go to the grocery and get fixings for tortilla soup. I lead such a thrilling life.

Teef
Bean has had two loose teeth for several months now. The permanent teeth (lower fronts) are growing in behind the baby teeth. Last Friday, I saw that one was about ready to come out, and I just pushed down on it and et voila! Tooth Fairy Time.
Bean remarked that she was fairly certain that the Tooth Fairy brings "golden coins". I had just been to the Post Office and purchased stamps from the machine with a 10 dollar bill. Change is given in coins.
Dollar coins.
Sacajawea dollars.
Golden Sacajawea dollars!
Mama hit the jackpot on that one and Bean was mightily impressed with her golden dollar.
The remaining tooth became the Leaning Tower of Toof and listed and wobbled but hung stubbornly for the next few days. Yesterday, I decided that I had enough wobble to pop that one out. (Yeah, cringe all you want but it wasn't half as gross as The Wobbly Fang*. Plus, I started to get worried that she was going to fall or something and that sticky-outy tooth was going to go through her lip. She already has a bruise on the bridge of her nose from some injury during a playdate on Monday.)
I was out of the house at bedtime and Daddy forgot to give her the tooth to put under the pillow. The Tooth Fairy figured it out anyway.
*If I ever open a pub in England, I think I'm going to call it The Wobbly Fang.
